Tesla FSD Faces Federal Probe After Multiple Incidents
U.S. transportation safety authorities have launched a formal investigation into Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology following reports of traffic violations and accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is reviewing 58 incidents involving Tesla vehicles operating in FSD mode, including cases of running red lights, incorrect lane changes, and collisions. Nearly 2.9 million vehicles are affected by the probe.
Tesla's stock dipped as regulators scrutinize the safety of its autonomous driving systems. The company maintains that drivers must remain alert, but NHTSA filings suggest warnings may have been insufficient in several injury-related incidents. This development could impact Elon Musk's plans for a driverless taxi network powered by over-the-air software updates.
